Join our expert horticulturalist on a guided walk through Rock Garden. Find out about the unique collection of plants we grow and their connections to local history that have been associated with the botanic garden over the last eight decades.

About Jon Peter
Curator & Manager of Plant Records

Instructor Bio

 Jon L. Peter has worked at some of the finest botanical institutions in North America and is currently Curator & Manager of Plant Records at the Royal Botanical Gardens where he is responsible for the documentation, evaluation and management of plants throughout the gardens, which includes over 231,000 individual plants representing approximately 7,200 taxa (different types). Jon has significant interest in preserving the historical woody specimens and unique types of plants which grow throughout the gardens and collections.

  • A large yellow swallowtail butterfly feeds on the blooms of Giant Blue Hyssop plants
  • black-eyed susans, crocosmia, asters
  • glowing violet blue, saucer-shaped flowers with distinctive white eyes and reddish-purple veining are held above mounds of deep green foliage
