Temporary Closure of Royal Botanical Gardens

In light of recent announcement from Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, regarding concerns surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Royal Botanical Gardens will be temporarily closed to the public until further notice.

A Message to our Members and Donors

During these unprecedented and uncertain times, I want to assure you that Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) continues to make the health and safety of its community a top priority. As the world responds to increasing concerns surrounding COVID-19, RBG is taking proactive measures to mitigate risk to our staff, volunteers, members and surrounding community.

These measures include the recent closure of all RBG facilities and properties until further notice — as advised by Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health — and the establishment of a work policy that allows many of our staff to continue working remotely while staying in touch through technology. RBG will continue to take guidance from our public health officials regarding the duration of this closure and will provide updates through our website, social media and e-communication.

Part of this temporary closure includes the cancellation or postponement of member and donor events for the immediate future. We share in your disappointment regarding these interruptions but know you understand the current need to maintain social distancing.

I would like to reassure our members that upon re-opening, RBG will extend all currently active memberships to cover the period of closure. We will be updating all members with specifics once normal operations have resumed.

In the midst of these extraordinary circumstances the value of Royal Botanical Gardens and what it represents is greater than ever before. We continue in our mission to connect people, plants and place for the purpose of nurturing and preserving healthy growing life on our planet.

I would like to thank you for your past and continued support of Royal Botanical Gardens. Without this support we could not have accomplished so much to this point, and through continued support we will be able to move forward and affect much needed change in this increasingly shifting world. When we welcome the world back to our gardens and natural areas, this critical need will continue.

If you would like to get in touch with us, or lend support through donation, please do not hesitate to reach out by email at membership@rbg.ca

Once again, I thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

Stay well and be safe. We look forward to seeing you at the Gardens again soon.
