Winter Tree and Shrub Identification

Thursday and Friday, February 20 and 21*

9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Nature Centre

RBG Experiences - Master Your Garden

Expand on your tree and shrub identification skills in RBG’s two-day workshop with Nadia Cavallin, field botanist and herbarium curator, and Joseph Mentlik, botany intern. Winter plant identification requires observing characteristics different from those we usually use in summer, however, they come in very handy in all seasons. We begin in the classroom learning the terminology of winter plant features. Then we use this to study the twigs, bark and silhouettes of southern Ontario species, both native and exotic, which we observe in RBG’s natural lands and gardens. Participants should be already comfortable with summer tree and shrub identification.

*Alternative date if weather is inclement: February 27, 28

Pre-registration required

Fee: $310 + service fee (Members 10% off), Students $230 + service fee
