10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; RBG Centre

You’re invited to join us for an exciting day full of history at RBG! On Saturday, October 20th, 2018 RBG will host experts from the fields of heritage and archaeology who are excited to share their knowledge of the history of our local landscapes.

In the morning, you can meet archaeologists and hear about their projects. You can even bring in your own artifacts from home and have them attempt to be identified by an expert. In the afternoon there will be a series of short talks and presentations about, the landscape, archaeology, and cultural heritage focussing on RBG and the surrounding area.

Afternoon's Presentations Include:

  • Dr. Laura J. Smith, Ireland Park Foundation - The Bleak and Barren-looking Spot: The Burial and Commemoration of Irish Famine Victims on Burlington Heights
  • Paul Racher, Archaeological Research Associates - Indigenous Archaeology and the Colonial Narrative
  • Dr. David Smith, University of Toronto, Mississauga - Pre-Contact Indigenous Communities at Cootes Paradise
  • Dr. Scott Martin, McMaster University - Through the Thick Wood: Archaeological Approaches to the Nursery (AhGx-8) and its Neighbours at the Head-of-the-Lake and Beyond
  • Rudy Fecteau, Brantford, ON - Plants and Archaeology

Parking and Directions

RBG cosists of four formal gardens contained within 1,100 hectares of nature reserve. Parking is available at the various garden areas and trailheads.
