Restoring Wetlands, Reviving Nature—Together
Partnerships are essential to the success of Royal Botanical Garden’s conservation work. With the help of our dedicated collaborators, we’re able to strengthen and expand critical restoration efforts across RBG’s 2,100-acre landscape. Wetlands are one of the most vital habitats we protect. These rich ecosystems play a crucial role in improving air quality, sequestering carbon, supporting biodiversity, and offering recreational value through activities like fishing, paddling, and birdwatching.
At RBG, we are committed to bringing our wetlands back to life. Our 2025 restoration efforts included removing invasives, planting native vegetation, monitoring water quality, tracking the health of key species and rebuilding the Spencer Creek Delta. These actions not only enhanced the local ecosystem but also contributed meaningfully to climate change mitigation.
This progress wouldn’t have been possible without the support of individual donors and the following partners: Canada Water Agency, Ontario Ministry of Environment-Conservation and Parks, Fidelity Canada, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, TAKLA Foundation, the Norman and Margaret Jewison Foundation and the Ted and Karin Bossence Fund at Hamilton Community Foundation.
