7C Panel Moderator: Issues Around Native Plants

John Ambrose has over 30 years of professional experience with botanical gardens and conservation programs. As Curator of the University of Guelph Arboretum, he initiated and carried out a program focussed on the biology of the rare Carolinian woody plants of southern Ontario. Later, as Curator of Botany and Manager of Horticulture at the Toronto Zoo, he developed the infrastructure for a botanical garden as well as restoring the fragmented natural forest of the Zoo site through volunteer tree planting events. He has served on various boards and committees with a particular interest in ecological restoration. On a small Pelee Island farm he currently is testing the limits of its long season.
