RBG loves trains! We are home to three separate locomotive attractions, typically running seasonally during Holiday Traditions.

10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Rock Garden

RBG’s newest "G scale" model train experience takes you on a journey through four seasons of whimsical Canadian landscapes while telling the story of how railroads shaped our history. The Escarpment Train Exhibit illustrates three eras of locomotion history including the steam engines of the late 1800s, the streamliners of the 1930s and the powerful modern diesels of the 1960s up to present day. 

2019 Dates:

  • Family Day Weekend: February 16 to 18
  • March Break: March 9 to 17
  • Victoria Day Weekend: May 18 to 20
  • Father's Day Weekend: June 15 and 16
  • Canada Day Weekend: June 29 to July 1
  • Labour Day Weekend: August 31 to September 2
  • As part of Holiday Traditions, November - December (check back for exact dates!)

At Rock Garden (1185 York Boulevard). The exhibit is displayed indoors at the Robert Stipe Garden House, but requires walking through the outdoor Rock Garden to access.

Botanical Train Display

Available during Holiday Traditions (November to December)

Constructed from over seven tons of cedar slabs, 3,000 pounds of rock and 250 feet of track, the Botanical Train Show features model trains amongst famous Canadian landmarks from coast to coast!

RBG Express

Available during Holiday Traditions (November to December)

All aboard! Take a ride on the RBG Express through the winter beauty of Hendrie Park. The train accomodates up to 20 riders, and is available to and from Santa's Cabin as part of RBG's North Pole Experiences. The train is also available after Christmas for paid rides throughout the garden.
