Weekdays in the summertime can be busy. Whether you’re enjoying some time off with the family or on the clock, the to-do list can be a lengthy one. Add in the afternoon-August heat (and we’ve had some sweltering stretches already), by the time 5 p.m. hits, you’re looking for some well-deserved “r & r”.

Each weeknight from August 12 to 30, Rock Garden hosts an evening of theatre.

Here is an incredible opportunity to treat yourself, your special someone, or a few friends to an avant-garde performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. This comedic love story is a timeless classic that has a little bit of everything – from mistaken identities, to emotion-toying practical jokes, to uproarious parties, and, of course, a plot-twisting love triangle. But this time, we get to see this story told in a uniquely contemporary light.

Burlington’s own Tottering Biped Theatre has taken a creative, conceptual approach to their telling of this story – finding parallels within the characters and their situations to those of a modern-day nightclub. Such an imaginative interpretation has made for some very intriguing and very entertaining experimental theatre. Not only is this sure to be a fascinating production, the ambiance makes this a special experience.

The freshly rejuvenated Rock Garden provides a delightful backdrop for outdoor theatre. The colourful blooms woven amongst the natural landscape is a soothing setting. During the twilight hours, it’s magical. The cooler evening temperatures provide some welcomed comfort after a hot afternoon. The long shadows and pink skies of dusk make the blooms even more vibrant. And, at this time of year, when the days are just a little bit shorter, the first stars emerge just a little bit sooner. The setting to sit back, relax, and enjoy an outdoor theatre performance could not be any more perfect.

Looking to add even more flavour to your evening? Try including dinner at the Rock Garden Café to prior to the evening performance. The Café offers delightful chef-selected entrees or a customizable picnic basket so you can enjoy your dinner outside in the peaceful surroundings of the garden.

Be sure to buy your Rock Garden theatre tickets soon as the seating is limited. Each performance will be such a wonderful way to spend a summer evening; and, without a doubt, will be very popular.
