Spring Bulb Display
Peak interest: mid-April to early June

Each spring, the sheltered bowl of the Rock Garden bursts into a spectacular display of over 100,000 bulbs. The bulbs are brought in from growers in Holland and planted in September. After they bloom they are lifted and sold at our bulb sale.

An introductory interpretive bed displays representatives of each tulip class, and bulbs are labelled throughout the garden to help you to compare, contrast, and choose favourites for your home garden.

Summer Annuals Display
Peak interest: late June to early October

Annuals are plants that complete their life cycle in less than one year. The Rock Garden annuals display brings together annuals from around the world in multicoloured mass plantings. Wander pathways past waterfalls and rock pools, and enjoy old favourites and new cultivars.

Flowering Cherry (Prunus) Collection
Peak Interest: May

A variety of flowering cherry species and cultivars provide a spectacular floral display in early spring. The exact flowering time of the cherries is quite variable and their flowers last only a few days, so catching them at their peak of bloom is a wonderful experience.

Azalea (Rhododendron) Display
Peak interest: June

Azaleas are found across much of the northern hemisphere. Unlike most other members of the genus Rhododendron, they are usually deciduous, though evergreen species do exist. At the Rock Garden, azaleas provide a colourful display that bridges the time between spring bulbs and summer annuals. In this display, the early flowering ones are purple and the later ones are shades of yellow, peach, apricot and orange.

Blue Sky Nurseries of Beamsville generously donated our azalea display.
