Student Host of the Environment (SHOE) program
Concerned about the environment and wondering “what can I do to help make Canada a healthier place to live?” Volunteer at Royal Botanical Gardens and participate in various activities that support the mandate of exploring the relationship between people, plants and the environment. CBCN FOR KIDS (ages 8 to 14)
Canadian Botanical Conservation Network, a network of people and places in Canada that conserve plant diversity, has put together the Botanist In Training Program so kids can learn about plants in Canada, complete experiments and find out what they can do to make a difference.
RARE PLANTS IN ONTARIO
Plants - what would our world be without them? All we have depends on these green marvels, for only they are able to capture and store the sun's life-giving energy in a form that other living things can use. Learn about Ontario's endangered species and what Canada is doing to protect plants.
Green Legacy/Vert tendre
This national travelling exhibit, produced in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, explores Canada's native plants, the threats they face, and the work that people are engaging in to protect them. Did you know that many drugs are based on plants? Explore plant-based medicine's rich history! Focusing on Canada, this site has games, interviews with healers and scientists, a map of plants and real places to visit, quizzes and more: resources to satisfy the curiosity of young and old alike. This on-line exhibit was developed by a consortium of partners including Royal Botanical Gardens, and is part of the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC). The VMC, created by the Department of Canadian Heritage in collaboration with more than 1200 museums across the country, is an important element of the Government of Canada's strategy to produce and promote Canadian cultural content online.
