Join Captain Mo as he steers his riverboat through the most biologically diverse region in the world. Discover the Seven Perils of the Amazon, check out cool interactives and see some of the most amazing animals ever.

2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity, and Royal Botanical Gardens Canada’s biodiversity hotspot is proud to bring the earth’s most biodiverse area, the Amazon, to our own backyard.

Through a hands-on experience with Ten Thousand Villages, children and parents discover life as a worker in a poor country. You’ll truly understand the importance of Fair Trade. (Recommended ages 8 and up)
GOING COCOA

Where does chocolate come from? What does it taste like in its pure form? Visit our demo table for answers to these and many more questions.
CHOCOLATE AND VANILLA
Monday, April 5; 12 and 2 p.m. video conference
Have you ever wondered where chocolate and vanilla come from? Many products we use in our daily lives, including fruits and flavoring come from the tropical rainforests. Come explore the relationship between our sweet tooth and tropical rainforest as we link up via videoconference to the Camden Children’s Garden in New Jersey. (Recommended ages 8 and up)

PIRANHA FEEDING
Saturdays, 12 p.m.
Learn about piranhas in their native environment, their adaptations for eating and watch as interpreters lower their weekly meal into the tank.
PARROT-DISE PARTIES

Looking for Amazon birds? Get up close and personal with Mickey Mercanti’s many feathered friends and scaly sidekicks.

Join our interpreters as they explore the fascinating plants and animals in the Amazon ecosystem. Each day they investigate a different topic ranging from piranha jaws and their adaptations to rubber harvest from trees!
