Royal Botanical Gardens acquires, collects, researches, exhibits, conserves and interprets a living horticultural collection.

Although best known for our display gardens, Royal Botanical Gardens is working hard to restore the once biologically rich aquatic habitats of Cootes Paradise marsh and lower Grindstone Creek, which flow into Hamilton Harbour in western Lake Ontario.

The objective of the Science Department of Royal Botanical Gardens is to generate and dissemination new knowledge focused on the world of plants, with emphasis on RBG’s own horticultural programs, nature sanctuaries, cultural and scientific history, and the relevance of plants to people and society.
