Biodiversity Celebration

There is no better place to celebrate the diversity of life than Royal Botanical Gardens, Canada’s biodiversity hotspot. Join us for a day of exploration and hands-on fun with local animals, plants, and ecosystems. Children’s activities, special visitors from the animal kingdom, guided walks, and much more await visitors on this activity-packed celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity.

Bird Banding
Join a bird bander to learn about birds and migration as he catches and bands them on their way through the Arboretum.
11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m
Sciensational Sssnakes!!!
How do reptiles and amphibians contribute to biodiversity? Visit these friendly creatures to learn more about their place in the ecosystem.

Musical Guest: David Archibald
Singer/song-writer David Archibald performs his catchy songs about poison ivy, campfires, the Great Lakes, and other outdoor wonders across the province. Find out more about our endangered species and spaces. Each song and story is jam-packed with positive nature messages. David’s performance is upbeat, interactive, informative and fun. Entertaining for the whole family!

David has written and performed for Sesame Street in New York and CBC’s Mr.Dressup. He has performed at Yonge/Dundas Square and headlined at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum on Earth Day. David also received a citation from the Canadian Healthy Environment Awards.

Lilac Tour
Learn the story of our lilac collection as you walk you through the Dell with one of our Garden Interpreters.
10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Marsh Walk (60 minutes)
Enjoy a walk down to the marsh with a Nature Interpreter to discover the wildlife that lives in the aquatic habitat.
1:30 p.m.
Wildflower Walk (30 minutes)
See what’s in bloom in our natural lands on a walk along our trails guided by an Interpreter.
